Construction and Materials

SmartCraft Homes frames exclusively with Thermapan SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels). Utilizing SIPs for all exterior walls produces a home that is much more energy efficient than a traditional stick framed home. SIPs panels are stronger, straighter, better insulated and more air tight than stick framed walls. A SIPs home also uses approximately 60% less lumber than a stick framed home. Other materials that we use to create a healthy and energy efficient home include Argon filled, low-e coated windows and doors, low VOC paints, cabinets and floor finishes.

Mechanical Systems

Home heating and cooling systems are the largest users of energy in your home. With a well insulated, air tight building envelope provided by a SIPs wall system, smaller, more energy efficient systems can be utilized.

A key ingredient to a healthy home is a system to provide fresh air to the inside of the home. An HRV (heat recovery ventilation) system brings fresh air from the outside to the inside of the home, while heating the incoming air with the outgoing air. The result is an energy efficient way to bring fresh air into the home.

We encourage customers to consider alternative heating options such as heated slab foundations, tankless hot water heaters and supplemental solar water heating. We also work with clients to help them choose Energy Star appliances. The Energy Star label indicates that an appliance in among the most energy efficient in its class.
